Urban myth? Did the factory produce,or dealers special order cars to be used as a "floor model" i.e. cars to be on the showroom floor to attract new buyers?
Dealers most certainly did. Typical examples include the Boss cars. The factory even sent out documents yearly suggesting typical types of cars to order, what options to include, even suggesting "popular" colors and trims for the model year.
